Our Coaching Philosophy

The main goal of our Professional Coaching programs is to teach in alignment with the International Coaching Federation’s core competencies and PCC assessment markers. We show how to apply Professional Coaching with individuals, teams, and the organization as a whole.

Although we teach in alignment with the ICF’s competencies and markers, we believe that each person will develop their own unique way to find that alignment. We believe there is no single way to be a great coach. We encourage every person to develop their own style of coaching based on their personality, unique talents, and everything that makes them who they are as a person. To be a great coach you need to practice, incorporate feedback, and learn from others.

Our coaching model is designed to be the starting point for your own coaching model. It consists of a toolbox of coaching objectives, coaching techniques, and coaching principles you can adopt a piece at a time at your own pace. Each coaching technique consists of a set of circumstances paired with examples of powerful questions to consider using under those circumstances.

Our training is based around the idea that Professional Coaching is a combination of two kinds of skills and behaviors. The first kind are supportive in nature such as being present, exercising Emotional Intelligence, and refraining from judgment. Everyone utilizes these skills and behaviors to some degree in any conversation. Coaches learn how to use them to a high degree of proficiency.

The second kind of skills and behaviors are specific to coaching. These include asking perspective shifting questions and setting up accountability systems. These skills and behaviors are only used within the context of a coaching conversation. By clearly distinguishing which skills and behaviors are a natural part of everyday conversations, you can practice them in any context and thus practice them more often and increase your proficiency faster.
